Fitchburg – Forrest John LaValley, age 88, of Fitchburg, MA passed away following a brief illness on Friday February 10, 2017 at the Golden Living Center of Fitchburg, MA.
Forrest was born in Leominster on May 28, 1928, a son of the late Arthur Edward LaValley of Richford, VT and Rose A. DeGrenier LaValley Faley of Knowlton, Quebec, Canada. He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1945 and served his country during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater on the crews of USS Ajax (AR-6) and USS Presque Isle (APB-44). He was among the servicemen who participated in Operation Crossroads, the nuclear weapon tests at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands in July 1946. Following his honorable discharge and until his retirement, Forrest was employed for many years at E.I. duPont de Nemours & Company, a former plastics manufacturer based in Leominster. He was a fan of movies and television, and enjoyed playing pool. Forrest loved to swim and traveled on camping trips with his family on numerous vacations; he also spent time cooking at home, dining out and walking.
He leaves his loving wife of sixty-six years Helen (Caissey) LaValley of Fitchburg, children Sharon Lee and husband Daniel of Whiting, New Jersey, David Lavalley and wife Sherry Sandoval of Natick, Mitchell LaValley of Fitchburg, Alan LaValley and wife Deborah of Leominster; Margaret Rollo and husband Paul of Leicester; sister Katherine “Kay” Aubuchon of Leominster; and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by six grandchildren; Sandra, Zachery, Rachel, Jonathan, Avery and Natasha, and two great grandchildren; Jackson and Juliana. Forrest was predeceased by eight siblings; J. David, Francis, Marjorie, Marion, Alfred, Bernard, Jeanne and Pauline.
