The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Tuesday, February 2, at 11:00 am. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be held at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery.
Ashby – Faith Elissa (Evans) Anttila, 82, of Ashby, passed away Tuesday, January 26 in the Life Care Center of Leominster. She was born March 2, 1933 on Watatic Mountain Road in Ashby, to Bill and Lydia Evans.
Faith graduated as valedictorian from Ashby High School in 1951, where she played 5 years of high school basketball. She married Orville R Anttila on September 1, 1951.
She is survived by her husband Orville, and two sons, Dwight (Donna) Anttila of Montchanin, DE, and Scott Anttila (Dorothea Witham) of Monmouth, ME; two grandchildren, April Littlefield and Crystal LaChapelle of Lewiston, ME; three great grandchildren, Lucas Littlefield, McKenna Peletier and Gaige LaChapelle.
She was predeceased by sisters, Norma Evans, Ethel Jones and Frances Maggs, and brothers Leon and Fred Evans.
Faith worked at the Fitchburg Public Library. Faith also worked at the Fitchburg University Library as an Academic Librarian, where she was named Professor Emeritus. She coached the women’s basketball team there for 3 years. She was active in union negotiations. Faith retired in 1997 after 34 years of service.
Faith was involved in the Ashby Unitarian Church, Ashby Historical Society, the Garden Club and the Council on Aging.
Faith loved sports, reading, traveling, flowers and gardening, and St Bernards. She sang in a choral group. She was a skilled seamstress and worked with her husband on craft projects which they sold at craft fairs in the area. She was well known in the neighborhood for her Summer Solstice Parties, where she served Strawberry Shortcake.
