A funeral service will take place on August 27 at the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road , Fitchburg at 10am. Burial will be immediately following at the St. Bernard’s Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Coggshall Park fund or a charity of your choice in memory of Gene.
Eugene Joseph Moriarty, Jr., 82, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away on August 5th at Florida Hospital in Flagler. Mr. Moriarty was born in Winchendon, July 29, 1934, son of Eugene J. and Katherine Shea Moriarty, and lived in Fitchburg the majority of his life.
Mr. Moriarty graduated from St. Bernard’s High School, class of 1952. He met and married his lifelong love and best friend, Marie DiGeronimo, and raised their two children in Fitchburg.
He retired after a career as a truck driver for Molter Transportation and Shepard’s Express. His passion for large trucks never diminished during his life. He was a 30 year member of the Teamster’s Union. He was an avid New England sports fan and proud of his Irish heritage. A strong love for Ireland and Irish music was always part of his life.
He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, where he also worked and volunteered after his retirement. He was also a lifetime member of the Irish American Association and Eastwood Club.
Mr. Moriarty was a devoted and loving husband, father and friend to all. He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene J. and Katherine Shea, as well as his daughter Theresa Moriarty Crank. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 62 years, Marie DiGeronimo Moriarty, his son Eugene and wife Courtney Moriarty of St. Augustine, Florida, brother Francis Moriarty of Keene, NH and his granddaughter, Ashley Crank of Westminster.
