Esther Elisabeth (Whitelaw) Carme, a compassionate and loving soul, passed on October 28, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on March 3, 1928, in Hudson, MA, Esther, a cherished mother and grandmother, leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and devotion that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Known for her storytelling and sense of humor, Esther brought joy and comfort to those around her. Her unwavering honesty, hard work, and dedication to family and friends were hallmarks of her character.
A retired certified nursing assistant, Esther devoted her career to caring for others with the same compassion she showed to her family and friends. She delighted in life’s simple joys, from spending time with her family and grandchildren to fishing on sunny afternoons and taking long walks. A woman of faith, she sang in the Covenant Congregational Church choir.
Esther lived most of her life in Waltham, MA, and recent years in Athol, MA. She created a home filled with love wherever she was. She is survived by her loving daughter, April Washburn, and son, Spencer Carme, along with their spouses, Philip Washburn and Jane Carme. Her memory lives on in her six grandsons: Alan Colarusso, Nicholas and Alexander Washburn, and Zackery, Benjamin, and Gabriel Carme, as well as her great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her parents, Irving and Alma (Leazer) Whitelaw, her brothers William and David Whitelaw, and her beloved son, Alan Carme.
Services and burial will be held privately. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
