Elizabeth Proctor Akers, age 102, passed away at her home in Ashburnham on Thursday, September 28, 2017. She was born on November 16, 1914 in Fitchburg to Ronald G. Proctor and Nellie McDonald (Burgess) Proctor. She had one sister, Margaret Lawton.

Elizabeth was brought up and worked on the family’s Proctor Farm on Pearl Hill Road in Fitchburg. She attended elementary school at the Pearl Hill One Room School House and went onto to graduate from Fitchburg High School in the class of 1932.

On September 19, 1941 Elizabeth married Scott Akers.  Together they had a son, Donald, and a daughter, Janet.

Elizabeth was very fond of her Scottish roots and spent multiple summers in the 1990s traveling to Scotland with her daughter, Janet, to visit cousins.

In 1988, Elizabeth and her mother moved to Ashburnham to live with Janet, her son-in-law, Ronald, and her grandson, Shannon.

Elizabeth or “Gram” as she was known to everyone, was a beautiful person inside and out.  She always had a smile on her face and was extremely patient and kind.  Gram enjoyed helping other people in any way she could. She was a member of Rollstone Congregational Church in Fitchburg for 78 years.  Over the years she made many donations of hats, mittens, socks, and quilts to the church.

Gram had a love of life and enjoyed creating things she could give to other people.  This including knitting mittens and hats for friends and families and giving vegetables and homemade goodies to everyone in her path. She loved gardening and amazed people by her green thumb and impressive vegetable and flower gardens. She was an avid seamstress and even created her great grandchildren’s baptismal gowns and Christmas stockings.

Of all the things Gram enjoyed, she loved being with her family. Some of her favorite times were baking, gardening, and doing puzzles with family, and sitting outside enjoying the sunshine and other people’s company. Her family was fortunate to have such a close relationship with her for so many years.

Gram is survived by her son, Donald, and daughter-in-law, Joan, her daughter, Janet, and son-in-law, Ronald, her grandchildren: Caroline (Sean), Shannon (Steph), Megan (Tom) and Caleigh, her great grandchildren: Arianna, Samson, Sawyer, Scarlett, her nephew Eugene, and many special friends especially Sarah (Joel) and their sons: Tristan, Chase, and Lane.
