A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 19 in the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Leominster. Calling hours are from 5-7 PM on Monday, April 18 in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Decibels Foundation which supports children with hearing loss such as Lori’s great-granddaughter Lucy.
Eleonore “Lori” D’Onfro, née Gintrowski, 88 of Leominster, MA passed away peacefully in the evening of April 10th, 2022 surrounded by family and loved ones. Lori was born in 1934 in Waldenburg, Silesia, then part of Germany. Lori’s family relocated to Berlin during the war and she lived for many years in Essen before moving to the Leominster area in 1959. She met her late husband, Mario D’Onfro, while learning English at Leominster High School. In addition to being a homemaker Lori was a regular fixture at her husband’s tailor shop in downtown Fitchburg. The two were married for 59 years until Mario passed away in 2019. Lori had a passion for gardening and especially enjoyed watching the birds that would visit her backyard. She was also an exceptional cook and loved nothing more than inviting her family over for dinner.
Lori is survived by her daughter Sonia (D’Onfro) Sontag and her sons Mark D’Onofrio and his wife Robin and David D’Onofrio and his wife Marci. She is predeceased by her son Carl D’Onfro. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Lindy and her husband Jack, Trevor, Mark, Mario, Clark, Rachel, and Steven, and one great-granddaughter Lucy who she adored.
