Lunenburg – Edwin James Cassano, 88, formerly of Lunenburg, passed away on October 11, 2016.
Eddie was born in Burlington, VT, to Anthony and Bertha (Shanks) Cassano on August 15, 1928. After High School, where he played trumpet in the band, he served a year in the Navy. Ed moved to Massachusetts as a salesman for the AE Martel Co. for 30 years. He then co-founded his own company, ADC, where he remained until retirement. He has lived in Fitchburg, Ashby, New Ipswich, NH, and finally in Lunenburg, all the while working and raising his family. Ed was active in Rotary for all of his business career. He also participated in the Ashby Boy Scouts, Troop 27, and the American Legion. After his retirement, he volunteered at the Johnny Appleseed Center, where visitors were always greeted with a smile, and a story – or two!
Ed and his much loved wife Char had a summer cottage for over 50 years in Ocean Point, Boothbay, ME; they also spent time in Florida during the winter. They enjoyed traveling, especially to England. Dixieland jazz was another favorite of Ed’s, and live performances were always attended with Ed hoping to be able to play the spoons with the band, which happened most of the time.
Ed leaves his sister Marylew of Middlebury, VT; his children, Dean and wife Eva, Stephanie and husband Alfred, Tonya and husband Tocker, Dianne, Dale and husband Gery, Jay and wife Maureen, and Daryll and husband Steve; also 11 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren that he loved very much. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
His beloved wife Charlotte predeceased him in February 2015.
