ROBICHAUD — The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Tuesday, October 17 with a Mass in St. Joseph Church in Fitchburg at 11:00am. Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday morning from 9-10:30 in the funeral home.
Edward was born in Fitchburg on June 7, 1926, a son of the late Edward and Lilly (Arsenault) Robichaud. As a young man, Edward was a very talented and athletic speed skater in the 10-14 age group. He raced at the Silver Skate Derby at the Boston Garden, and in 1938, he placed first. In 1943, Edward enlisted in the US Navy, and proudly served his country during WWII. He toured through the Philippines and New Guinea, and was honorably discharged in 1946 with four battle stars.
Having never received his High School diploma due to his faithful military service, Edward was awarded his in 1999 at Fitchburg High School.
Edward worked for the former Weyerhaeuser/ James River Paper Company, retiring after 36 years; twenty of those years working in the lab and sixteen as a machinist.
After retirement, Edward and his wife Jeanette enjoyed many years of summering at their home in New Brunswick, Canada. In his spare time he loved to play Cribbage and spend time with his family. Edward was a Parishioner of Saint Joseph Church and a member of the St. Joe’s Club and the American Legion post 429.
He leaves his children, Denise Hay and husband Michael of Leominster, Katherine Bezanson and husband Peter of Ashby, Karen Ptak of Lunenburg, Richard Robichaud and wife Peggy of North Adams; grandchildren, Kristy, Karolyn, Ricky, Jesse, Alicia, Jamie, Lindsay, Ryan, Connor, and Dylan; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Yvonne Guertin, Euclide Robichaud, Annette Courtemanche, all of FL, and Leo Robichaud of CO; many nieces and nephews.
Edward was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Marie “Jeanette” (Richard) Robichaud, his granddaughter Kerry Ptak, three brothers, and one sister.
