The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Friday, May 20 at 11:30am. Calling hours will precede the service from 10-11:30am. Burial will follow in the MA Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.

Fitchburg – Edward M. Wade, 91, of Fitchburg, passed away on May 14, 2016 in Leominster Hospital.
Edward was born in Rutland, VT on June 4, 1924, the only son of the late Miner and Edna (Johnson) Wade. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, and proudly served his country during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1946 as a Tec 5. Edward was the recipient of the Good Conduct and Victory Medals, as well as the American Theater Campaign and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbons. He worked for 44 years in the Finishing Room for the Fitchburg Paper Company in Fitchburg. During his years at the paper company, he was very active in their bowling league. Edward was also on the Board of Directors at their Credit Union and was the President of the Rec League. After retirement, Edward stayed very active by volunteering at Burbank Hospital and the Elm Street Congregational Church. In his spare time, Edward was an avid golfer. He was very social and loved to tell jokes and stories, always bringing a smile to his audience. He could often be found reading or watching the Red Sox and Patriots. Edward’s joy in life was truly is his family, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He leaves his two daughters, Pamela Haapanen and her companion Michael McCarthy, and Deborah Wade, all of Fitchburg. Edward also leaves his granddaughters, Andrea Haapanen of Fitchburg and Heather Hampson of Townsend; three great grandchildren, Alana Lackey, and Spencer and Jackson Hampson, and many cousins.
Edward was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Norma (Lehtinen) Wade on January 2, 2015.
