FITCHBURG - Edna M. Lahtinen, born on the 18th of August, 1934 in Ashby, Massachusetts, passed away on the 16th of March, 2025 at Life Care Center Leominster.
Edna was known for her reliable and loving nature, a beacon of warmth and stability in the lives of all who knew her. After growing up in Ashby, she moved to Ashburnham in 1953 where she raised her family and made countless memories. She was a beloved figure in her community, she loved skiing at Mt. Watatic and spending quality time at Billy Ward Pond.
Edna dedicated 29 years of her life to Cushing Academy, serving as a secretary.
She is survived by her two children, Susan J. Lahtinen-Phelps and her husband Clayton of Winchendon and Karl J. Lahtinen and his wife Debra of Wilder, TN; grandson, Andrew R. Rahaim of Rice Lake, WI; granddaughter, Audrey M. Arnold and her husband Chris Duran of Bailey, CO; sister, Katherine Starzmann and her husband George of Falling Waters, WV; and a nephew, Glenn DiTomasso and his wife Linda of Spencer, MA.. Also, life long friends, Arnold and Leeannette Suokko of New Ipswich, NH.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Hemlin and Elma (Luoma) Hemlin; and by her husband, Robert G. Lahtinen. and her sister Edith S. (Hemlin) (Suokko) DiTomasso.
Her life was a testament to her resilient spirit, her loving nature, and her reliability. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories and upload photos to Edna's memorial page at brandonfuneral.com.
