Douglas L. Cringan

April 20, 1946 — May 19, 2015

FITCHBURG – Douglas L. “Doug” Cringan, 69, passed away May 19, 2015 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born April 20, 1946 in Fitchburg, the son of the late William and Mildred (Bean) Cringan. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1964 and earned his Associate’s Degree from Mt. Wachusett Community College. He was a member of the National Guard.  For 45 years he was a Contracts Administrator/Sales Representative for precast/prestressed concrete.

Doug was a past Grand Knight and member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus for many years. He was Chairman of the Planning Board in Fitchburg for several years. He was on the Board of Overseers for St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School and also chaired the Garlic Festival at Madonna of the Holy Rosary.  He also chaired many events at Holy Family Elementary and St. Bernard’s High School.

Doug was a family man who cherished his role as father, grandfather and husband. He was always involved in his children and grandchildren’s sports, activities and endeavors. He loved photography and was always known as a handyman and “Jack of all trades”.

He leaves his loving wife of 46 years, Susan (O’Neill) Cringan, his children, Tracy Pappas of Westminster and Nicholas, Lori Shattuck and Todd of Westminster and Jonathan Cringan of Leominster, his beloved grandchildren, Charles, Evan and Kyra Pappas and Cole and Quin Shattuck, his siblings, Bruce Cringan and Cindy of Fitchburg, Barry Cringan and Patty of Lunenburg, Thom Cringan and Carol of Ashburnham and Mary Cringan of Fitchburg, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Billy Cringan.

The family would like to thank the Heywood Hospital Oncology Department as well as the Simonds Sinon Cancer Center in Fitchburg.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg with a Mass at 10:00 am in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St., Westminster. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St., Westminster, MA 01473.
