Calling hours will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Monday, November 9 from 3-6 pm. A prayer service will be held at 6pm. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
OBITUARY
Fitchburg – Dorothy (Persson) Gelinas Ragucci, 75, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, at home with her family after a lengthy illness.
Dorothy was born in New Haven, CT on December 13, 1939, a daughter of the late Nils G. Persson and Irene C. (Bedard) Persson Joslin. She has lived in Fitchburg since 1952, also in Germany and Westminster.
Dorothy returned to school in the 1970’s and graduated from Fitchburg State College in 1979, and began teaching at the age of 39. She previously worked at New England Telephone Company as a Service Order Writer and Customer Service Rep. She worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Goodrich and Sheridan Street Schools before returning to School. While attending college, Dorothy worked at Stuart’s Department Store and Mr. G’s Coffee Shop. She also sold real estate for Town & Country Realtors for 10 years.
Dorothy worked as a Special Needs Job Coordinator, and Special Needs Teacher at Fitchburg High School, retiring in 2003. While there, she was Class Advisor twice, for the Classes of 1989 and 2001. She also held the position of Special Needs Curriculum Coordinator for several years. She taught evening classes for Fitchburg Adult Education. Dorothy held the offices of Vice President and Secretary of the Fitchburg Teacher’s Association for many years and attended many of the annual meetings in Washington DC, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Atlanta. She was a member of the MA Teacher’s Association and the National Education Association (retired).
She is survived by her husband, Richard “Gooch” Ragucci of Fitchburg; three sons, Steven Gelinas and companion Renee, Daniel Gelinas and companion Joan, Michael Gelinas and wife Janet of Fitchburg; two stepdaughters, Lisa Hoaglund and husband Duane of Sterling and Donna Tourigny and husband Shawn of Gardner; brother, N. Conrad Persson and his wife Annette of Overland Park, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; one niece, and two nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Walter Persson.
