WESTMINSTER – Donald “Puppy” F. Richards, Jr., 70, passed away April 8, 2018 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner. The funeral will be held Friday, April 13, 2018 from Brandon Funeral Home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Parish at St. Camillus Church, 333 Mechanic St., Fitchburg. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fitchburg Police Association, 20 Elm St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
WESTMINSTER – Donald “Puppy” F. Richards, Jr., 70, passed away April 8, 2018 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
He was born October 31, 1947 in Fitchburg, the son of Donald F. Richards, Sr. and Elizabeth R. (Cuddy) Richards.
Puppy was a member of the Royal Knights Drum and Bugle Corps as a young man and a 1965 graduate of Fitchburg High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving from 1966 to 1970. He was a police officer for the City of Fitchburg for 47 years retiring in October 2017. He also worked for Brandon Funeral Home, S. Fors Construction and P.J. Keating.
He played on the Fitchburg Police Department softball and hockey teams. He was a member of the South Fitchburg Social Club and the P. J. Keating Union. He enjoyed Patriots football, NASCAR and watching the History Channel. Puppy loved being with his family and many friends. He and Becky enjoyed travelling to the islands in the winter and to see family in Blythe, CA.
He leaves his wife, Becky (Ray) Richards, with whom he recently celebrated 50 years of marriage, sons, Scott D. Richards and his wife, Corinna, of Blythe, CA and Keith (Buka) Richards of Westminster, brothers, Ronald and his wife, Kathy, of Westminster, Wally and his wife, Heather, of Westminster and Jeff and his wife, Susan, of Cape Cod, grandchildren, Scott (Bubba), Jacob, Junior, Anthony, Kalina and Christian, great grandchildren, Rosaly and Gavin, close friends, Jude Chabot and Kelly Baxter and his aunt and uncle, nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce.
