A private funeral service with military honors will be held in Brandon Funeral Home in Fitchburg. Burial will be at St. Bernards Cemetery following the service.
Dominick Aveni, 94, of 1149 Main Street Leominster, MA passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 7, 2022. He was born on February 21, 1927 in Sandy Ridge, PA. He was the son of Vincenzo and Domenica (LoCicero) Aveni, and lived many years in Fitchburg and Leominster. Dominick was a graduate of Fitchburg High School in 1945. He attended Fitchburg State College, receiving a Bachelors and Masters Degree. He taught at Memorial Junior High School, retiring in 1993. He also worked for the former A&P Tea Company as an assistant manager for 17 years. Dominick served in the Army, where he was stationed in Vienna, Austria. He worked in the Palace of Justice, receiving the Commendation Medal. He leaves his wife, Mary J. (Geary) Aveni of 64 years, a daughter Diane Stickel of Shrewsbury, two sons, Michael A. Aveni of Portland , OR and John T. Aveni of Haverhill. He is predeceased by four brothers, Louie, Rosario, Anthony and Joseph, and two sisters, Maryann, and Josephine. He had 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed gardening and loved to travel.
