David B. Dery, 75, passed away unexpectedly at Leominster Hospital on October 30. David was born on September 28, 1949 in Gardner and lived most of his life in Leominster, moving in recent years to Westminster.
David graduated from St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School in 1967 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lowell Technological Institute (now UMASS Lowell) in 1971. He was invited to become a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the international honor society of the Institute of Electrical Engineers.
He worked as a Technician and Group Manager at Digital Equipment Corporation. He also worked at Data Terminal Systems and retired from Hewlett Packard/Agilent Technologies in 2009.
Dave was kind and funny and an outstanding person, but words can’t encompass everything he was. He had an exceptionally fulfilling life although it was cut short much too soon. He loved his grandchildren and was very involved in each of their lives. Time spent with the people in his life was important to him, from his children to his brother to his extended family and his friends. Dave was dependable and he was enthusiastic about keeping family traditions alive. He was an avid skier, and he proudly conquered Tuckerman’s Ravine in his earlier days. Leisurely rides in his Miata that he named Spunky were a favorite way to spend any day. He had a long list of passions: golf, Maui, visiting friends around the country, progressive rock concerts, traveling to new places, a good beer or glass of red wine. He was an audiophile and enjoyed researching new technology. Dave often came to the rescue to help figure out anything from computer issues to difficult calculus homework.
Dave will be missed by his daughter Rebecca Andrews and her partner Dan Kruse, son Michael Dery, all of Leominster; stepdaughter Sabrina Stanwood of Hopkinton, NH; grandchildren Parker Dery, Marley Andrews, Abigail Bergeron, Madelaine Morse; special partner Bobbie Smolin of Westminster; brother Peter Dery and wife Cherie of Lunenburg; nieces Stephanie Dery and Courtney Januskiewiecz; nephews Craig Dery and Shawn Drinkwine; brother-in-law Gary Drinkwine and wife Millie, friends and extended family.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 20 years, Susan (Drinkwine) Dery and his parents Phillip Dery and Claire Dery.
Per David’s wishes there will be no services.
