The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., on Friday, April 22, with a Mass in Saint Joseph Church at 10:00am. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be from 4-7pm on Thursday, April 21 in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA 02472.
OBITUARY
Fitchburg – Chester J. “Chet” Goguen, 81, of Fitchburg, passed away April 19, 2016 in Clinton Hospital.
Chet was born in Gardner on December 2, 1934, the only son of the late Bella (Larcenaire) Goguen. He was raised and educated in Gardner; Chet enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was stationed in Washington D.C. where he was part of the Honor Guard, as well as a Chaplain’s Assistant. After his honorable discharge, Chet utilized the GI Bill and attended UMass Amherst. He began his career in sales selling encyclopedias, and eventually worked his way up to becoming a financial advisor for I.D.S./ American Express for 30 years. For multiple years, Chet’s district and his sales force of 25 individuals, achieved the status of #1 in the country. He was fortunate enough during his career to travel extensively with his family. Chet was inducted into the I.D.S. Hall of Fame in 1988.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed camping, golfing, motorcycles, and time spent at the casino; most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and making everyone around him laugh. Chet and his wife Norma spent winters in Destin, Florida for the past 18 years, and more recently at their park model trailer in Maine during the summer months. Chet was a man of great faith, and well known for his generous nature and always wanting to help others.
Chet leaves his wife of 55 years, Norma (Leger) Goguen of Fitchburg; three daughters, Tammy Cormier and husband Douglas of Fitchburg, Leslie Lee and husband David of Ashburnham, and Andrea Brideau and husband Stephen of Leominster; grandchildren, Timothy Cormier, Jacob, Jessica, and Rebecca Lee, Jameson and Shaelyn Brideau; three great grandchildren, Ava, Angelys, and Allison.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter Rachel Lee.
