Carol Mary Casson

Carol Mary Casson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world unexpectedly on August 22, 2024 at the age of 86 surrounded by her loved ones.

Carol was born to Mary Ghilardi (Tarbell) and Geno Ghilardi of Fitchburg, MA on November 20, 1937, in Fitchburg, Mass. She graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1955 and later met the love of her life of 56 years, Alwin Casson, whom she married on August 11, 1956. Carol and Al raised four children, Bruce, Stuart, Brenda, and Scott. 

While busy raising a family, Carol worked in many industries in the surrounding area, but her pinnacle accomplishment was opening the thriving business, Carol’s Dairy Bar in Fitchburg, with her husband. Carol relished spending time with her family, traveling, hosting family events, and taking long drives to see the sights. 

Carol is survived by her 3 children; two sons Bruce Casson and his wife Virginia (Ginny) Casson of Grafton, MA,  Stuart Casson of Madison, ME, a daughter Brenda Boudreau and her husband Keith Boudreau of West Townsend, MA, and her daughter-in-law Margeret (Peg) Casson of Fitchburg, MA.  Carol is also survived by 3 sisters; Gena Powell of Elverta, CA, Mary Selinga of Fitchburg, MA, and Susan Ghilardi of Townsend, MA, 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. 

Carol is predeceased by her parents, Mary and Geno Ghilardi, her brothers Peter and Paul Ghilardi, her husband Alwin Casson, her youngest son Scott Casson and her grandson Donald Matthews. 

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 27th at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, MA. Calling hours will be from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A private family burial to follow. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Alzheimer’s Foundation in memory of her Mother Mary or the Wounded Warrior Foundation in memory of her husband Al.
