Barbara A. DeCosta, a smart, funny, loving, and dedicated woman, of Leominster, MA, passed away on the 25th of November, 2024. Barbara was born in Keene, NH, on June 4, 1941, to the late Edward and Irene Boucher. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, James DeCosta, whom she married on September 5, 1964. Barbara's vivacious spirit, infectious laughter, and unparalleled dedication to her family were the hallmarks of her life, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Barbara was a proud and hardworking woman who retired as a sales clerk from Walmart in Leominster, MA, in 2023. Her work ethic and dedication to service were admired by her coworkers and customers alike. In her retirement, Barbara found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid knitter, a voracious reader, and she found delight in solving word searches. As Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." This quote encapsulates Barbara's love for visiting with family and friends, and the importance she placed on fostering deep, heartfelt connections.
What mattered most to Barbara was her family. She leaves behind her sister, Beverly Valera (Sebastian). Her children, Irene Marro (Matthew), James DeCosta, and Carrie DeCosta. She was affectionately known as "Little Grammy" to Lori Hannon (Jeff), Eric Lamoureux, Adam Lamoureux (Melissa), Mollie DeCosta, Johnny DeCosta, Nick Cormier, Sarah Marro, Amanda Hoy, Jeremy Marro, and Jessie Marro. She also had 8 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Cormier. In the words of Shakespeare, "What is a city but the people? True, the people are the city." Barbara's love and dedication transformed her family into a beautiful city, her greatest legacy.
Family and friends are invited to share memories, upload photos and celebrate Barbara's life at the memorial page at https://my.gather.app/remember/barbara-decosta.
