Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 19, from 9am – 12noon in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg. A service will be held at 12:00noon. Burial will be held privately.
Barbara Ellen (Burchstead) Bovenzi, 84, of Lunenburg, MA died peacefully at her home on June 12th. She was born in Leominster, MA on October 31, 1931, a daughter of David Warren Burchstead and Lillian Ruth MacDonald.
Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Leominster High School, where she was a cheerleader. She married John F. Bovenzi in 1951. They resided in Downey, CA and Agawam, MA for the next ten years before moving to Andover, MA, where they lived for 39 years and where Barbara raised her three sons. Their last move was to Lunenburg, MA in 2002.
In California, Barbara loved attending Hollywood premiers. Her favorite was ‘A Star is Born’. In Agawam, she was a Volunteer Aide at Our Lady of Providence Home for Children in West Springfield, MA. In Andover, Barbara worked as a teacher’s aide and taught catechism.
Barbara was beautiful, intelligent, graceful and elegant. She loved nothing more than caring for and spending time with family and friends. Barbara was unassuming, asking for little, but always there for others. She was a great cook and baker. Few ever left her home with an empty stomach. Barbara had many other talents as well, including interior design and knitting. She was an avid reader, particularly interested in history, U.S. presidents and first ladies. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Barbara was pre-deceased by her son David, a brother Gerald Burchstead, and two sisters, Rachel Gantt and Sharon (Burchstead) Chartrand.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, a son John (Erica) of Alexandria, VA, a son Daniel of Oakland, CA and a brother Richard Burchstead of Leominster, MA, two grandsons, Adam J. Bovenzi (Lindsay) and Eric J. Bovenzi (Stephanie), a step grandson, Gregory J. Cooper, and two great grandsons, Maxwell J. Bovenzi and Franklin R. Bovenzi.
