FITCHBURG – Andrew C. Boudreau, 35 passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
Andy is survived by his parents, Kelly (Cummings) and Mark Boudreau of Fitchburg, his brother, Tommy Boudreau and partner, Haley Weinig of Boston, his grandparents Bernadette and Donald Cummings of Fitchburg, Aunts and Uncles James and Charlene Boudreau, David and Diane Boudreau, Brian and Dianne Boudreau, Chris and Tina Cummings, Tracey and John Deshayes, Colleen and Stephen Hirons and Ryan Cummings, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Roland and Janet Boudreau.
Throughout his childhood and into his adult years, Andy was especially passionate about music and his love for playing the guitar. He pursued his guitar skills, writing and editing music. He was an automobile enthusiast, enjoyed anything mechanical and loved spending time with his beloved brother, Tommy. He had a great sense of humor and was known to many as the sweetest and most gentle soul.
Andy was a 2006 graduate from Fitchburg High. He worked many jobs. Most significant ones were in manufacturing as a CNC tech.
Andy lost his battle with opioid addiction. More than 106,000 persons in the U.S. died from drug-involved overdose in 2021, including illicit drugs and prescription opioids. Opioid-involved overdose deaths rose from 21,089 in 2010 to 47,600 in 2017 and remained steady through 2019. This was followed by a significant increase in 2020 with 68,630 reported deaths and again in 2021 with 80,411 reported overdose deaths. The best ways to prevent opioid overdose deaths are to improve safe opioid prescribing, reduce exposure to opioids, prevent misuse, and treat opioid use disorder. We find comfort in knowing that he will live on in our hearts and memories. We want to break the silence of addiction, and we are praying that anyone reading this obituary who is or knows someone struggling with addiction will reach out for help. The National Drug Helpline (844)289-0879.
We are thankful to healthcare professionals, especially Hartford Hospital, rehabilitation and addiction counselors, and all staff members that dedicate themselves to helping the addiction crisis.
