LEOMINSTER – Alfred A. (‘Pete’) Cormier, 91, of 70 Stephens Road, Leominster, died on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA. after a brief illness.
Pete was born in Leominster on January 27, 1927, the son of Alyre and Elizabeth (Bourque) Cormier. He grew up in Leominster and was educated there at St. Cecilia’s School, Leominster High School as well as Worcester Junior College, where he received a degree in Accounting.
Pete went on to work at American News from 1948 to 1957 in Leominster, Virginia and finally in North Carolina as Branch Manager before returning to Fitchburg, MA where he worked as an Financial Accountant/Office Manager for Union Coal and Oil Company for over 35 years. Pete retired in 1992 and enjoyed many years as a happy retiree – he loved crossword puzzles and anything that involved working with numbers and was an avid Red Sox fan – he never missed a game this past season all the way to their winning the World Series. Pete loved spending time with his children who all remained devoted to him.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Mary G. (Spagnuola) Cormier, who was married to Pete for over 64 years, after remaining inseparable since the two first met when they were both just 16 years old. Together, Pete and Mary devoted their lives as incredible parents to raising their three children in Leominster, MA until Mary’s death in 2008, after which Pete remained in the home they both loved.
Pete also leaves three loving children who adored him: Alan Cormier of Leominster, MA., Tina Cormier of Bolton, MA. and her partner, Lulu Giancola and Gary Cormier of Cambridge, MA and his partner, Edward Stuart. Pete has two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremy Cormier and a predeceased grandson, Jason Cormier, along with six great grandchildren.
Also predeceased are Pete’s parents, his four brothers Henry, Raymond, Robert and Maurice and a sister, Theresa Cormier. Doris Freda, his youngest sister, is the remaining living sibling who resides in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Everyone who knew Pete would describe him as a ‘true gentleman’ – kind, warm and welcoming to everyone. Like his wife, Mary, it is an understatement to say that he will be missed by all who knew him – certainly deeply missed but never ever forgotten.
