A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union St., Leominster. Burial will follow at St. Leo’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, March 16, at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Family of Nazareth Building Fund in the name of A. Elizabeth Burns.
LEOMINSTER – Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matthew 5.8A. Elizabeth (née Frazier) Burns, a devout Catholic, died March 11, 2017 after a brief illness. She was deeply loved and touched many lives through her career in nursing, community service, and selfless devotion to her faith and family.Elizabeth was a graduate of Leominster High School where she acted in plays and was a member of the tumbling twirlers. She went on to study at Leominster Hospital School of Nursing and received her RN pin. She was a proud member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, and the Massachusetts Nursing Association. She worked at Leominster Hospital in the Maternity unit, generously sharing her wisdom and love of children while raising nine children of her own. As a founding member of the Holy Family of Nazareth Parish, Liz served as President of the Women’s Guild, managed the Food Pantry, assisted with the Giving Tree and the Thanksgiving Food Drive, and was steward of the altar linens. She also made and embroidered stoles for baptisms, raised funds for the Pro Life campaign, and organized fundraisers for the Church. She was an avid reader with an interest in holistic health, and a dedicated gardener with a special love of roses.Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband Thomas and sons John and Thomas, and she leaves behind her son Michael and wife Kriss Burns of Fremont, California; son Richard and wife Laura Burns of Leominster; daughter Catherine and husband Mark LaCouture of Leominster; son Dr. Timothy and wife Ilsa Burns of Waco, Texas; daughter Melanie Burns and husband Paul Harris of Wiscasset, Maine; son Colonel (Ret.) Francis and wife Dr. Darlene Burns of Cibolo, Texas; and son Patrick and wife Theresa Burns of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Elizabeth is the beloved grandmother of Eileen Burns-Jin; Emily Palumbo and Alyssa Burns; Jason and Rebecca LaCouture; Brian and Garret Burns; David and Daniel Burns; Conor, Cormac, Cavan Burns; and of seven great-grandchildren.
