A celebration of Perry Coleman’s life will take place on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420. Calling hours are from 9:30- 11:30 a.m. with the service starting at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held at the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon, Massachusetts, 111 Glenallen St, 01475.

PERRY COLEMAN, loving father and grandfather, entered eternal rest and peace on November 2, 2017 at the Edith Nourse Rodgers Memorial Veterans Hospital of the Bedford VA Medical Center after a long illness. He was born on April 27, 1930 in Alberta, Alabama to the late Rebecca Coleman and was blessed with a loving guardian, the late Estella Perkins.

While growing up Perry was educated in the Wilcox Country, Alabama school system.  Upon completion of his formal education he enlisted into the United States Armed Forces. Perry was a Korean and Vietnam-era veteran, having served as a Non-Commission Officer in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG) in the Transportation Corps.

SSG Perry Coleman retired at Fort Devens, Massachusetts in 1973, where he became a 44 year resident of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He continued his career as a commodity distributor with the Martin Distributors and later retired from the National Perforating Corporation of Clinton, Massachusetts

Perry enjoyed being with his family, talking on the telephone and watching sports and wrestling on television. He was known for his vast knowledge in sports, having once pitched against as young Willie Mays before he became “The Say Hey Kid”.

He was a devoted father and grandfather and is survived by five children; Jimmy L Coleman (Rosa “Bonnie”) of Atlanta, Robert (Bob) Coleman of Dubai, U.A.E., Alvin (Al) Coleman (Margaret) of Chesterfield, VA, Joseph (Joe) Brygodzinski of Rutland, VT, and Denise Coleman of Fitchburg, MA and five grandchildren; Alvin (Dee) Coleman, Gregory (Greg) Coleman, Stephen Perry Coleman of Chesterfield, VA and Zaylin Perry Coleman and Starriana (Starr) Coleman of Fitchburg, MA.  The children who preceded him in death were John “Butch” Brygodzinski of Burlington, VT and Stephen Coleman (Christy) of Fitchburg, MA.
